BROKEN BULB STUDIOS GAME ART

Hire or commission me to make your game art today! I created this game art with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for © Broken Bulb Studios.

Broken Bulb Studios was a Mobile and Facebook game Co. from 2009 to 2014, and Lost Moons was planned to be their beautiful and ambitious epic fantasy MMO game. I was in charge of making most of the major landmarks, agriculture, and other various assets in the game with Adobe Illustrator.

Miscrits, Broken Bulb’s most popular game with over 20 million users, was a vibrant and colorful Pokémon-style Monster-Collecting RPG. I produced the Miscrits, level bosses, backgrounds, level designs, and world assets. I was also happy to be an Art Lead with a team of Artists on several Miscrits levels, in charge of direction, style, design, and layout. To see how Broken Bulb’s game art was made, check out the Game Art Creative Process page.

Miscrits featured cute but sassy monsters with elemental powers and 4 levels of evolution, all produced in Illustrator. It was a blast to make many Miscrits by using my imagination and combining different creatures, elements, and themes. The big-baddy-daddy below (1st image in the gallery) was the ultimate Boss of Miscria, Apollo Nox. I created his final form and collaborated with another amazing Artist to keep a cohesive style for all his forms.

I made the final form of Apollo Nox with Illustrator for Broken Bulb. He is the supervillain of Miscrits: a massive and evil monster. I created the Lava background in the video also.
I also produced these two Miscrits Djinn bosses of Aerobia for Broken Bulb. They are extremely challenging opponents to battle in Miscria. I even made the Aerobia background you see as well.
Light Zaptor and Ninjat D are two of the multitude of Miscrits I created for Broken Bulb. Zaptor is a lightning element Miscrit and Shurikoon is fire. I also made the arena background seen in the clip.

These bright and detailed backgrounds for Miscrits appear once a player searches for a Miscrit. If they find one, it opens up a battle with these backgrounds painted in Photoshop behind the fight. I had the pleasure of being one of the top background Artists for Broken Bulb. You may notice in the YouTube videos that players can’t always see the entire background. This is because it was limited to screen size and aspect ratio.

Upon request, I also have more unlisted background illustrations for potential employers.

These fun and funky Assets were created in Illustrator to populate the world of Miscria (the land of Miscrits) and were used as clickable content, level layouts, or decorative props. They come in many shapes and sizes and could be anything from a small bush to an elaborate castle.

I was the Art Lead on several levels for Miscrits with an Art Team. I had to learn how to use Broken Bulbs systems to implement the graphics into their games. The task was to take a theme the Management dreamed up and make it into reality. Emerald Isle was an Irish theme for St. Patrick’s Day, so it included verdant green nature Miscrits and assets. The Haunted Shack was Halloween-themed, so it’s of course dark, dank, and spooky. The Moon level was the most ambitious, featuring the Moon’s stark monochromatic maze-like surface with a parallax star background, many impressive landmarks, and a mystical ambient cave.

Here you can see the St. Patrick’s Day-inspired Emerald Isle level, background, and one of the nature Miscrits I created named “Amphibunny.”
The Haunted Shack Level is shown here in all of its terrifyingly cute glory. An eerie Halloween theme permeates the level, assets, and Miscrits.
Even Miscrits can fly to the Moon with enough ingenuity and spirit! The Moon level is an extremely detailed maze filled with many easter eggs for players to discover.
